Clinical Supervision for Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors (Reno): IN-PERSON CLASS

This 2-day workshop will be held on October 2-3, 2025 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm PST each day. Full attendance on both days is required in order to receive a certificate of completion. No credit will be given for partial attendance.

CASAT has received funding to implement the Accelerate Career Pathways for Substance Use, and Problem Gambling Treatment, to increase the number of trained supervisors in Nevada. As a result, this course is now a part of the 2025 Clinical Supervision Coaching Academy.

The Clinical Supervision Coaching Academy is being offered at no cost to qualified applicants that are interested in becoming an approved supervisor by the Nevada State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.

In order to be accepted into the academy, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be in good standing with the Nevada State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug, and Problem Gambling Counselors.
  • Meet the Nevada State Board’s Requirements for supervisor applicants. An LADC/LCADC must be licensed for two (2) years, and a CADC/CPGC must be licensed for three (3) years prior to applying to become a clinical supervisor.
  • Commit to attending a Clinical Supervision for Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling counselors in-person training.
  • Commit to attending three (3) consultation group sessions held virtually.

When your application has been reviewed, you will receive a notification.

The objectives of the Clinical Supervision training include facilitating the development of a personal model of supervision and practicing skills to help shape the delivery of high-quality, effective clinical services to those seeking assistance for substance use disorders. This training is aimed at preparing clinical supervisors to observe job performance, provide feedback and coaching, prioritize learning needs, develop achievable learning objectives, and continue monitoring performance to assess effectiveness.

Examples of key topics/concepts discussed are:

  • The scope of clinical supervision, the supervisory relationship
  • Applying theoretical models to clinical supervision
  • Observation formats and methods
  • Counselor assessment and goal development, developing your own model
  • Cultural considerations, including agency culture considerations
  • Discussion/review of TAP 21A competencies
  • Requirements, regulations, and legal aspects of supervision
  • Utilizing ASAM Criteria
