Recognizing Behavioral and Emotional Changes in Older Adults: Navigating Transitions and Knowing When to Seek Help: LIVE WEBINAR

23 Oct 2026

Description

This course is brought to you in partnership with Nevada Aging and Disabiliy Services Division

Have you ever found yourself concerned about certain emotions or behaviors exhibited by the person you care for? Maybe you've noticed changes that leave you feeling worried, or observed unexplained shifts in their mood. These experiences can be challenging, especially when it’s hard to determine whether they are part of a normal aging process or something more significant.

During this training, you’ll gain valuable insight into the typical changes in mood and behavior that commonly occur among older adults. We’ll explore how to distinguish between everyday variations and situations that may warrant reaching out for a formal psychological assessment. By the end of the session, you’ll feel more confident in recognizing signs that require attention and understanding when professional support might be beneficial.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

  • Better understand the changes that typically occur as people age, and to recognize important signs that may indicate the need for additional support.

  • Learn how to identify normal patterns of change in older adults, which will help us distinguish between expected transitions and potential concerns.

  • Discuss early warning signs for mood disorders and cognitive impairment, so you can spot issues before they become more serious.

  • Understand the difference between nostalgia and hoarding, which can often be misunderstood.

  • Learn about determining if a visit to a medical or mental health professional is warranted, empowering you to make informed decisions when concerns arise.

  • Review practical and supportive ways to have conversations with loved ones about seeking help, ensuring these discussions are respectful and constructive.
