The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria 4th Edition (Adult) is themost widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for assessment, placement,treatment planning, transition and continued service criteria for clients with substanceuse and co-occurring disorders. Treatment providers and program evaluators usepatient placement criteria to ensure that clients receive the appropriate level of carebased on person-centered needs. This 1-hour virtual training session is a follow-up tothe recent 3-hour Virtual Training in March of 2026. This breakout session will focus onunderstanding and implementing the updated ASAM 4 th Edition related to Level of Care Assessment (LOCA). A case study will be utilized to demonstrate how to utilize the LOCA in practice. Additionally, the Treatment Planning Assessment will be discussed with implementation recommendations on how to utilize.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, participants will:

• Understand and learn how to utilize the Level of Care Assessment in practice.

• Understand and learn how to utilize the Treatment Planning Assessment in practice with practical recommendations on how to utilize when seeking reimbursement from 3rd Party Payers and also meet the BHCEN certification related to NAC 458.
