Foundations for Working with Clients in Treatment and Recovery: SELF-PACED ONLINE

This course is designed to build knowledge and address some of the common challenges that arise from working with clients in treatment and recovery from drug and alcohol misuse.
Some of the topics will include recovery language, building rapport with new clients, overview of commonly misused substances (prevalence, trends, and terminology), co-occurring disorders, addressing relapse, reducing barriers, understanding harm reduction and what defines success in treatment and in recovery.

Ethical Practice Applications for Interns, Clinicians, and Supervisors (6 CEU): SELF-PACED ONLINE

Statutory, administrative and ethical standards along with best practice applications for Alcohol and Drug, MFT, and Social Work interns, supervisors and practitioners will be summarized and illustrated. Mandated reporting requirements; ideas for enhancing cooperation with court ordered clients; applications to enhance the client alliance and improve outcomes; and, updated practice, reporting and informed consent standards will be discussed. Scenarios to illustrate legal and ethical breaches involving supervisors, clinicians and interns will be discussed and processed. Gender Issues in Recovery: Working with Men in Behavioral Health: SELF-PACED ONLINE COURSE

This video will focus on the roles/stereo types that influence men's behaviors from an early age. We will identify the gender norms and how these become a barrier for change with men who suffer from addiction and/or trauma. We will seek to focus on how to break the gender stereotypes and interventions that are useful in assisting men in reaching out for help and being able to identify their own patterns of behaviors and break free from repeated cycles of abuse and substance abuse. This course will be an educational, interactive session to encourage understanding and give necessary feedback to all attendees.

Trauma and First Responders (includes 1.5 CEUs in Suicide Prevention):: SELF-PACED ONLINE

In the last few years, more firefights and police officers have died by suicide than in the line of duty. Indeed, it is also believed that the numbers of reported suicides for first responders are usually underestimated. This workshop will explore the phenomenon of First Responder suicide including causes/conditions and learn what is being done to prevent suicide in this vulnerable population. Additionally, resources for peers, family members, and professionals will be investigated with attendees to help them take an active role in providing support to the First Responders in their lives.
